3/84 GOLD EXCHANGE FUTURES - Silver - Platinum

Trading in silver and platinum futures on the Tokyo Gold Exchange started on January 25, 1984 giving the market a trading range wider than other similar markets in the world. Contracts initially will be for delivery in June, August, October and December, but from June, three other months will be added, similar to gold futures trading. Silver trading will be in 10 kilogram units and platinum in 500 grams. MITI also announced that it would be permitting straddle transactions on the exchange, Selling one future and buying another to smooth out market discrepancies.
