1/83 DENTISTS STRIKE GOLD AND INCREASED TAXES
EAGLE eyed tax examiners have turned up 100 dentists who defrauded the national Health Insurance scheme and made average unreported earnings of 5 million yen each by charging the insurance scheme for real gold fillings while actually using cheaper material. This is another standard Japanese business practice, when they can get away with it, they do. In 1981, only 21.2 tons of gold alloys used in fillings were produced in Japan, while the dentists charged the national health insurance scheme for 70 to 100 tons.
