4/83 NOX AND HOUSEHOLD WASTE WATER - Pollution - Environment
The government has established a new pollution prevention plan (for 1982-1986) for 11 regions in Japan, including Tokyo, Kanagawa, Nagoya, Osaka, Northern Kyushu and Fukuoka. Under that plan corporations and public bodies are expected to spend about 8.7 trillion yen by 1986 in controlling pollution under the plan, concerning NOx, household waste waters, and traffic related pollution. Although under the previous plan the SOx situation improved, the NOx and particulate pollution in the air has become a serious problem. The Environment Agency also believes improvement is necessary for rivers, lakes and public waterways. Expenses for the Tokyo area alone by 1986 are expected to reach 2.44 trillion yen.
