The Japanese government is giving increasing heed to the interests of the victims of crimes. The major gist of matters being considered is to keep the victims and their families more informed on what is going on in the court (being more open) and considering the possibility of giving the victims or their families more participation in the actual procedures in the criminal case. Input on the sentencing stage for example. The German system is being closing studied as a model. More along American lines, the government has decided to be more cooperative with victims of traffic crimes. It is now more willing to give information to victims so that they more pursue civil litigation for damages. One consideration is the protection of the privacy of eye witnesses.
