For decades in Japan there has been trouble with many Japanese teachers who object to playing the national anthem, Kimigayo, associating it too much with the war and Japan’s militaristic forces. One teacher refused to play the anthem at a school function and was reprimanded. She filed a court case. The Tokyo District Court found against her.
