In view of the above attempt to extend Japan’s jurisdiction over foreigners
acts overseas against Japanese, many find it puzzling that Japan categorically
refused to hand over former Peruvian President Fujimori. The government of
Peru has formerly asked the Japanese government to extradite Fujimori to
Peru on charges of being involved in the murder of 25 Peruvian citizens.
The government of Japan’s response has been that it does not extradite its
citizens. The government of Japan gave him Japanese citizenship. Fujimori
was born in Peru, committed the alleged crimes in Peru but Japan refuses
his extradition while Japan seeks to have other countries to extradite parties
to Japan based on acts committed outside of Japan. Sounds like to trying
to have your cake and eat it too.
