Aum Shinrikryo is the religious sect which carried out the poison gas attack on Tokyo’s subways in 1994. The criminal trial of the leader of the sect basically ended in December 2003, now they are just waiting for the decision of the judge. The defendant kept quiet throughout the trial. The defense attorneys declared that they would appeal if he is given the death sentence. Of course the defendant has the right to remain silent. In 2003 at least two of his cohorts were given death sentences for the attacks.
